: After
the International Standard – now comes the ISO 14001 video clip!
The
worldwide première of a video clip on the International Standard
ISO 14001 took place on 24 June in Beijing, China, at the opening
of the 14th plenary meeting of ISO technical committee ISO/TC 207,
which is responsible for the ISO 14000 family of environmental
management standards.
ISO
Secretary-General Alan Bryden introduced the clip as one of a number of
initiatives undertaken by ISO and its national members since last year
to celebrate the 10th anniversary of ISO 14001, the first standard in
the family.
Launched
in 1996 and republished as a new, improved version in 2004, ISO 14001
gives the requirements for an environmental management system (EMS),
which is a tool for helping organizations to implement good
environmental practice and to aim for continual improvement of their
environmental performance. ISO 14001 has become the international
benchmark for EMS, implemented in 138 countries and now thoroughly
integrated with the global economy.
The
video clip, ISO 14001 – the world's environmental management
system standard, is a concise introduction developed by ISO
Central Secretariat for launching at the Beijing meeting of ISO/TC 207
because the committee did not have a plenary meeting in the 10th
anniversary year of 2006. The video clip can be downloaded free of
charge from ISO's Web site. It is also available in high resolution on
DVD for being shown in conference settings. The DVD version is also
free, although postage and handling will be charged.
In
addition to the video clip, a special report on the worldwide impact of
ISO 14001 is published in the May-June 2007 issue of ISO's magazine ISO
Management Systems,
including perspectives from past and present leaders of ISO/TC 207 and
selected highlights of the standard's first decade. This issue of the
magazine also includes an article on the efforts of the Chinese
authorities to make the 2008 Beijing Olympics the "greenest
ever", including the implementation of ISO 14001.
ISO
has just launched an updated CD-ROM collection of the 23 standards (plus
one draft) that currently make up the ISO 14000 family. They include new
or updated standards for use in greenhouse gas accounting and
verification programmes and emissions trading, environmental labelling,
life cycle analysis and environmental communication.
The
concept and script for the video clip ISO 14001 – the world's
environmental management system standard were developed by
Communication Services, Marketing and Communication, at ISO Central
Secretariat. The video clip was produced by Freestudios www.freestudios.ch
It is available in English only and has a run time of 5 min 7 sec.
